The Kindle is in Canada!

For Canadians that jealously watched your southern neighbors enjoy their Kindles from above, well now you can get in on the fun.

Finally Amazon has struck a deal with Canada’s wireless providers, (Canada is notorious for ridiculously expensive cell phones plans, by the way) to deliver content for free (free for you at least), so you can buy books from the Amazon ebook store and have them delivered free.

While Canada has had the excellent Sony Reader line for a while, which are great choices for anyone, but it’s certainly nice to have choice, especially when that choice is the most popular and best designed ereader on the market.

The big difference is that, for some reason, the bigger DX is only available in America so far, but you get the standard Kindle 2 at the same price as an American would pay.

The only other difference is that don’t get blog reading capabilities like America, but you do get free wikipedia anywhere there’s a cell signal. Want to know why Socrates chose to drink the poison so easily? I wondered that myself today, and I got the answer, on my Kindle, and then got back to reading my book. What awesome technology.

Anyways, the Kindle is only sold through Amazon.com, not Amazon.ca so you are still on the hook for some shipping, which is probably about what you’d pay in taxes if you bought if from a store anyways. And from then on you buy your books from the Kindle store at Amazon.com as well. It’s real simple, so congratulations to Canada for getting access to the most popular ereader.

You can order one right here, right now and have it in a few days:

  1. is the small kindle large enough to read , are there any problems with it, I’m really interested in purchasing one, but can only afford the smaller one with the 6″ screen
will I be happy with this size?

  2. Absolutely! The Kindles truly are great products, the screen size is fine, I find it easier to read than a pocket paperback book because a paperback book crams all the lines in tight. Ereaders can space things out nicely as they don’t need to save on paper. I really think you’ll be very happy with one.-Kelly
